NORMA MacDONALD’s latest album, ‘Old Future’ (April 24, 2020) leans into nostalgia and contradiction. It indulges 1960’s Dolly and Loretta influences while nodding to 1970’s California folk with layered acoustic guitars and lush harmonies. The album was co-produced by
MacDonald and Dale Murray (Hayden, Cuff the Duke, Matt Mays); the musical kinship between
MacDonald’s golden voice and astute song writing and Murray’s sweeping pedal steel makes
for an effortless but magical collaboration.
Born in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia, MacDonald is a staple of the Halifax music scene. Her four
previous albums were critical darlings, received numerous Music Nova Scotia and East Coast
Music Award nominations, and received considerable airplay in North America and the UK.
