LINDA MCLEAN & THE AWAKENING, formed just under a year ago, and drawing from a rich history of original tunes is a happy distraction from the acclaimed singer-songwriter’s ongoing solo projects. ‘The Importance of Being Important’ is Linda’s narrative non-fiction book about creative recovery and belonging. ‘Lyrics & Letters’ is her solo performance pairing original songs with readings from the book. If you find it hard to make good choices for yourself, or if you’re afraid of failing, or if you’re sure you’ll never be good enough for anything, this could very well be your story too.

Dick Denhaan: 40 years as a drummer with influences from Lemmy to Neil Peart and bands from Blue Rodeo to Marillion, Dick co-founded Vertigo, recorded 2 CDs, positioned himself as a top east coast drummer and now heads up premier East Coast cover band Joker’s Right.

Jeff Miller: awakened by Jack Bruce, inspired by icons Jaco Pastorius, Ron Carter among others, Jeff studied musicology, played with LA based Mere Mortals, (Roxy, Whiskey A-Go-Go) moved to Halifax and turned music consultant for film (Michael Mann’s ‘Heat’) et al.

Andy McLean: UK born, 80’s guitarist and songwriter for The Tenants (Sony) and Doubledare (Polygram) with 3 albums and international hit “Sheriff”, Andy is a music producer who co-founded and headed up NXNE before becoming CEO of ECMA.

“Once in a great while, out of the blue, comes an indie masterpiece. Such is the case of Linda McLean’s NO LANGUAGE… Another superb Canadian female singer-songwriter you need to seek out.” – Alan Cackett, Maverick Magazine, UK

Linda McLean’s upcoming release is ‘Songs for the Book’, acoustic, intimate recordings of 12 songs to accompany each chapter of ‘The Importance of Being Important.’ She’s an award-winning singer-songwriter with three studio albums: Betty’s Room, No Language, and Snow, Mountain, River. New songs are being showcased with the band.

“Ranked among the best of her North American contemporaries; country-tinged beauty with reference points stretching from Lucinda Williams to KD Lang.” – UK Music Media Review
