After the intense academic study of classical guitar at McGill University, Jake returned in 2016 to his hometown of Dartmouth NS to chase his rock'n'roll roots. Jake's music is a mosaic of blues-rock and roots sounds from the 60's and 70's with a virtuosic fingerpicking guitar style. From relaxed inviting acoustic pieces to psychedelic electric anthems his diverse and unpredictable musicianship keeps audiences hooked from the first chord to the last note. 

Ballard's songwriting is characterized by unconventional arrangements and genuine lyricism, delving into relatable themes inspired by disillusionment, romance, daydreaming and maritime culture. Over the years Jake has rooted his influence from classical guitar in a down-to-earth approach, creating a darker sound that is a unique blend of warmth and skill with sweet bluesy undertones. His electrifying performances are honest and unpretentious with a good sense of humor, you can expect soulful vocals, tight rhythms and explosive improvisation.

With over a decade of obsessive non-stop performing and recording, his solo career took flight with two full length albums ‘Madness’(2022)’ and his most recent release ‘Songs From the Wishing Well’(2023). Currently, with new music in postproduction and two videos in the works Jake is showing no signs of slowing down.
